Week 1 ( Jan 15-21, 2018)

Residency - Barton Open School - Allison Rubin Forester - 6.00 Hours

Today was my first visit to Barton open school, and to me it’s unlike any other middle school I’ve seen. Allison’s classroom is bustling with kids that are welcome to interact and get help from their peers. The classroom looks like it doesn’t have assigned seats, which makes it easy for them interact with somebody different each day.  I can see there is a sense of collaboration in her classes (math and dance) by the classroom layout. It’s a major factor for collaboration to be in my teaching lesson because of this.

Her dance class is putting on a concert at the moment, so I was able to see what they’ve been working on for the last few weeks. I’m quite impressed with the work and effort they’ve put into it! It’d be cool to try to do something interactive with them through some web-based medium. Same goes for the Geometry class. I look forward to observing the class more and to get more ideas as to what I want to provide the kids in my teaching lesson.

Week 1 ( Jan 15-21, 2018)

Residency - Urban Arts Academy - Tamar Ghidalia - 1.00 Hour

Last week I have met with Tamar at Urban Arts. I will most likely be teaching 2-5 graders some form of media arts. I was thrilled to hear that they have access to the Adobe Suite, and it will be extremely beneficial for those students to experience media arts at that age. I look forward to working with them as my second Residency in March.

Residency - Barton Open School - Allison Rubin Forester - 1.00 Hour

Two weeks prior to today, I had met with Allison outside of the classroom to get to know her know who she was and what kind of classes she teaches. I was given a broad overview of her lessons and what classes she teaches (math, dance, and art). From there, I had some broad understanding of the classroom before I actually enter the classroom this week
